I was a bus driver 1959 -1964 at Shepherds Bush Garage in London and then moved to Hemel Hempstead around 1965 as a driver for London Country. My nickname due to being 6 foot 7 was Lofty. I would love to see any old photos or share memories. Thanks Terry

Went to Cobham Rally yesterday and was delighted to see my old bus RT1784 there. Only seen it 3 times in the past 35 years!. Great to see it on the road. Came back to it a few times during the day in the hope somebody would be on board and I could have a look inside but no such luck. Look forward to seeing it again sometime in the future.

Whilst in Paris recently I saw an RM number RM102 on the banks of the Seine in a much altered condition, but seemingly in use as a tourist bus. I did not find it in the preserved list and wondered if anyone knew of its relocation to France.

Great site. RM1708 is currently with the New South Wales Transport Museum in Sydney. It is in prestine condition. It was brought to Western Australia by Balcatta Primary School and then bought by Don Collins who later sold it on to the Museum. All the best Des Wood

I drove RF, RT, RM, DMS, BL Types from Sutton between 1973 and 1977. How I wish I'd kept old photos and other stuff. Still have my badge N99738 and cap badge. I must come to see your superb vehicles next year. Thank heavens they are being so well looked after.

I have always had a keen interest in anything to do with London Transport, being brought up in London ,i can remember the the first time i saw an RT on route 35 from Leyton garage, this would have been around 1948-49 ,i was very young at the time ,it could have been an SRT,no number was recorded.London Trolleybuses were also a facination to me ,how bare it was when they took all the wires and traction poles down.

This is a tale of two quite remarkable people who through the hobby that they enjoy give a lot of pleasure to other people. It all kicked off with myself going into Northampton's heritage day I found them on the old lady that I knew quite well[RF433].I got talking to these two fine people and took a ride with them and aranged to meet up with them in a few weeks time. The day came and I had a most enjoyable day out with this most interesting fellow just talking all things London Transport and a second trip in RF433.The following Sunday it was the best bus show of the year[DUXFORD]and I managed to scrounge a lift to the show on RF433 and a day of real good fun and discussion followed in the company of these two people and others. The bonus was the real hot sunny day which made my round trip from home of 7000 miles to the show a trip to remember for many years. I am now back home with my photographs and a bit more knowledge of bus preservation than I had when I started out on my flight over to the UK. All this passed on to me by three people who are doing a real good job in looking after RF433 and RF486 plus other vehicle's for our future generation's to enjoy.I raise my glass to these people and wish them well in the hobby. The names I will leave it to you to work that out, it should not be to diffuclt, good luck with all you do.

Hello to all from a new member. I work part time for Quantock Motor Services, which as some of you may know operate many classic buses. I get to drive some of them, particularly a Bristol LD (1956) on the Exmoor Explorer which amongst other steep hills, descends Porlock Hill! I wonder if any of you have any pictures that can be e-mailed to me of RT,s, preferably roof route box ones, taken when operating the LT 132 route. I used to travel on this route regularly to school & it would bring back some memories. The website looks good-keep up the good work!

I am interested to read Michael Parsons' notes on working the 236. I run the website www.red-RF.com, where we provide details of Central Area routes worked by RFs and publish memories of those who worked them. I wonder if Michael knew Pat Spencer from Tottenham (AR), who provided some notes for the 236 page. If Michael would like to make any notes available for publication, I shall be pleased to hear from him via the site.

An excellent site, and an interesting read. I was a bus spotter for many years as a child, during the 1970's and kept notebooks and fleet lists, ticking off the ones I spotted on my travels in London. Unfortunately, my books disappeared long ago. Sad to see that so few examples - with the exception of Routemasters, of course, exist today. I am very surprised that no S-reg DMS's survive in the form that they were delivered. Their whinning engines, and rather clever rear end treatment to incorporate the necessary fans, were a favourite of mine. I can still remember the first day DM's operated out of Holloway on the 168a route, replacing RT's, and I walked an extra few miles in order to catch one for the trip home from school. I was lucky enough to be at Syon Park - a trip to the bookshop there, an Alladin's Cave of bus books, cycling all the way from Battersea, a regular ride - when the pre-run Leyland Titan, the future of London's buses - was on display. I'd have not lost my passion and love of old buses, and have recently converted my wife! I'd love to be more involved with bus preservation and maintainance, too, to give back the pleasure I have had over the years, to this day. Ultimately, if ever the Lottery came up, I would love to give a home to one of my four/six wheeled friends.

Hi to all those enjoy this site,to understand this tale refer back to vistor number 357 on the 2-9-08 It concerns RF 433, a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to acquire eight photographs of RF 433 on looking at them very closely I decided that my late wife and I were on a possible four of them. The photographs were taken on the 10/4/71 and 16/4/71 the one taken on the 10/4/71 I am not to sure about but reasonable certain, the three taken on the 16/4/71 the last day of crew RF, I am 100% certain. I had all the photos blown up in Orillia just the cab area to get more detail. As I am sure that we did the last crew 236 home that night it would seem that 433 was the last crew RF in London.I did not know that these photographs had been taken although I do have a slight memory of my late wife saying something about someone takeing photographs. It is an amazeing thought that the photo'taken thirty eight years ago about a normal days work should surface now, it would be nice to see a few more photo's or borrow them to do some more research, its a good site loads of info regards M Parsons.
